MARKREADER
MarkReader on the other hand, processes images obtained from an image scanner to acquire data from hand-marked forms. The forms are ordinary print-outs that are designed and printed using MarkReader. The data obtained can be exported in various formats (CSV, TXT, DAT)  to be used in third party applications such as exam assessment applications, statistical analysis software etc.

Other than classical OMR processing, MarkReader can process barcodes, OCR/ICR text (characters enclosed in boxes) and can produce image clips from defined regions.

Barcodes can be used for:

• Precoding examinee ID
• Precoding exam or form ID
• Matching sheets of a single form over an AutoFormID

Image clips can be used by third party tools for:

• Subjective scoring of open-ended questions
• Acquiring person photo
• Acquiring signature

Integrated Form Editor

MarkReader provides an integrated form editor which allows designing, customizing and printing forms. You don't need to buy expensive OMR forms and try to adapt your applications to their fixed design.With MarkReader you're free to make as many designs as you wish, and make copies just enough for the application. All you need is an office printer. MarkReader's form editor is specific to OMR forms. It's very easy to learn and helps building elegant forms. The editor has the following features:

• OMR elements of Grid, Question and List types
• Customizing look of elements: border, spacing, titles etc
• Customizing the data produced by each element
• OMR and ICR elements (characters constrained in boxes)
• Images (JPG, PNG, GIF)
• Rich Text Box which allows editing text blocks containing styled text, tables, images etc. Rich Text Box allows pasting rich text from other applications, too.
• Defining clipping regions
• Support for Barcodes of various types
• Exporting forms in PDF and SVG
• Printing with merge data (precoded OMR, barcode, text or OCR elements) from CSV or TXT datasources.

Scanning and Processing

All MarkReader requires form processing OMR forms is an office scanner with WIA driver. You don't need to buy expensive and dedicated OMR scanners. Besides OMR, you can process barcodes, acquire OCR/ICR text and get image clips. This functionality is either not possible or require extra hardware with classical OMR scanners. Even if its possible, image clips and barcodes slow down classical OMR scanners.

MarkReader's form processor has the following features:

• Works with every ADF scanner that has WIA interface.
• It's fats, as fast as your scanner. Even with low-priced 10-20 ppm scanners you can achieve speeds offered by classical OMR scanners. If your scanner supports higher ppm's, processing forms at 6.000 pages/hour is possible.
• It's accurate. Accuracy is not comprimised for any other feature.
• Allows importing images from a folder, this way you can scan forms with another software and process using MarkReader.
• Allows determining mark-threshold.
• Forms can be processed multiple times without needing to scanning again.
• Manual corrections are allowed
• Can export data in CSV, TXT, DAT formats.
• Can scan multi-sheet forms. Even if the pages are shuffled before scan, MarkReader can match individual pages of a form and assemble data in a single row.
• Can scan duplex forms.

Scoring and Reporting
Classical OMR scanners only deal with gathering data from forms and leave the rest to the application.

MarkReader provides basic test scoring and survey analysis for most common test/survey applications besides gathering data.

Accuracy
MarkReader is designed for maximum accuracy. Among various other techniques we have chosen the following methods to achieve it:

• MarkReader uses time-ticks at two sides to locate mark positions precisely.
• Drop-out color technique is applied for best accuracy.
• User-defined mark threshold value allows fine-tuning and calibrating mark sensing.
• MarkReader provides an integrated form editor and does not allow scanning forms designed by other applications.
• MarkReader can correct and process tilted forms.
